My Christmasy Binondo Food Wok Experience

Heloooo, my fingers are trigger happy after struggling with withdrawal symptoms due to internet disconnection.  Not that we were disconnected, it is just that our router’s adapter fell along with computer speakers and other heavy stuff from the computer table.  The adapter is now with the electrician from quiapo who drops by the electric shop outside our village weekly in QC.  My Binondo Food wok blog has been derailed and the internet connection here in Batac, Ilocos Norte is quite static.

I want to share pictures of my unforgetable December 16 experience.  Click below: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/imoan_teatrofreak/album/576460762376049125
that compensated the cancelled UP’s lantern parade and malcolm madness due to the NO TO TUITION FEE INCREASE rallies that turned violent I heard.

Christmas is time of giving, of being home, of being happy, of family and friends, to rest, to smile… and ofcourse TO EAT!!! :)  I am glad I spent some of it walking along the streets of Manila’s Binondo.

Merry Christmas! :)

I learned of Ivan Man Dy in Inquirer featured a year ago.  It was only last December 16 that my schedule permitted me to join one of his tours.  And I can’t wait for the next.

Know more about him at www.oldmanilawalks.com

Paoay’s Crunchy Cornik

Paoay, Ilocos Norte is known for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Paoay Church that resembles Borubudur and built of coral blocks and stucco-plastered bricks.  Well much have been said and written about the church, so why not talk about another side of Paoay… that is theirCRunCh Crinch Crunk Crunchy Cornik :)

Actually I have nothing much to say but “Masarap siya at ito ang napili kong panregalo ngayong pasko.” Haven’t blogged for some time now and I thought that since it is Christmas season, I want to share what I’ve got for my friends and loved ones:

1616110_img1616102_img

Something that they could eat, and enjoy eating anytime of the day, and with or without suka.  Cornik is what I usually eat for merienda with my cousin Nikko when we play at their house in Laoag.  She taught me how to eat it with sukang puti that made me love eating cornik even more.  In my younger years, Ilocos has not produced their version of Garlic Cornik or maybe some people make them but they weren’t that popular or actually packaged, sold and exported unlike today.  Paoay’s very own, Nana Rosa’s is one of the makers and distributors of this product, Chicharon Crunchy Corn.  My sister and I bought for friends and schoolmates for Christmas last year.  Since Cornik has been too common for me, I didn’t realize I would be receiving a number of positive feedbacks from my blockmates when classes resumed the following new year:  Naomi pa-oder naman ng cornik na bigay mo sa akin last time. I passed around an order slip and more than 10 people were on the list for orders.  Actually may utang nga ako because I totally forgot about the order and lost the slip (Hargh…) So I am giving Cornik now as a gift for them 2 pcs. for each friend and loved one:1616109_img

Paoay’s Cornik is not like any other cornik in groceries, fishball stands and sari-sari stores.  It’s crunchier, a bit bigger and lighter than the usual cornik.  Peculiar in Iloco Cornik is its robust ilocos garlic aroma, tastes not too salty but made just right and melts in your mouth like chocolate :0)

To my manilenyo and manilenya friends, don’t worry.  My family sells them.  You can contact my mom: 09175700347 or Myrna, her secretary: (077) 7703630/7703258.

Nana Rosa’s Cornik can be bought in some balikbayan shops in Ilocos Norte.  It is manufactured in Barangay 3, Salbang, Paoay Ilocos Norte and comes in garlic, cheese and barbecue flavors.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.  To my friends and loved ones, as what I’ve written in the Christmas Card: “Have a Crunchy Christmas with Ilocos Norte’s Cornik.”
