The best film entry for me in the Cinemalaya 2008. I enjoyed it more than the film JAY. Hands-down to Chris Martinez who won as best director and his movie, best screenplay.

Quotable quote: Dad asked me, “If everyone believes in heaven, then why is everyone afraid to die?” I said, “If I am 100 percent sure that I will go to heaven, then I can die anytime.”

Clap clap clap, applause applause… Palakpakan ang mga tao after the movie, standing room, puno-puno ng tao kahit malakas ang ulan. The presence of Mylene Dizon and Chris Martinex graced the event. Sabi ni Mylene, “Nakakataba ng puso kasi kahit malakas ang ulan napuno parin ang sinehan.” Chris Martinez also said that it it might be shown in regular movie houses soon:

I hope!!! It is the best film I’ve seen this year (sorry to Batman fans, yes it is better than Dark Knight in my opinion). It is a mix of drama and comedy, and thought-provoking at the same time. I really really love the movie.

Mabuhay ang indie-sine!

Tribu. Tulad ng Dati (Cinemalaya 2007 replays in UP)

These 2 films were cinemalaya winners in 2007 and they were replayed this week at UP film Institute.

Tribu - was disappointing. I expected too much, because it was the talk of the town last year since Jim Libiran actually hired real gang members in Tondo as actors to portray as themselves in the movie. But it was just “okay” for me. Some needed acting workshop. Mejo hilaw ang performance ng iba. At puro rap lang ng rap most of the time, kulang sa content value sa story. Pagkatapos ng movie, nasabi ko, “Yun na yon?”

Tulad ng Dati - gusto ko naman siya. It won as Best Picture, and it is well-deserved. I like the interplay of past and present of the history of The Dawn, led by Jett Pangan. At ehemplo sila ng banda na nagkakaisa at hindi nauuwi tulad ng beatles at eraserheads na nadidisband. Pero compared sa 100 and Jay entries this year, malayo ang Tulad ng Dati. Sapaw na sapaw.

This film really deserves to be BEST FILM IN FULL LENGTH CATEGORY.

Funny.  Witty.  Brilliant because it was simple without special effects or embellishments.  But  I enjoyed it.  I think everyone did.  And it was a very good film.  Baron Geisler fits the gay role.

Simply done, but quite moving and remarkable. Hands down to Pasion who directed the film (I had picture with him but I will upload later).

I find it dragging. Though Paul Sta. Ana is commendable for the close up shots he did, as if the spectator is actually in the film too.

Actors were good especially the main lead actor, Neil Ryan See as taxi driver/boyfriend. I’ve seen him in some UP plays and some small roles in TV. I hope he gets it big someday, that young man is very good. I am wondering if the role of Baron Geisler in Jay were given to him, would have he won best actor too? Probably. He is a versatile actor.

Storywise, as I said I find it dragging and confusing at the first half. I heard someone said “Hindi ko maintindihan saan ang punta nito.” — Well me too. But all in all, it was okay. Not too bad but neither very good. It was, “okay lang:”

Eating without kimono at RED KIMONO :P

Hindi kami nakahubad.  It is just that you don’t have to be in kimono or genuine jap to be able to eat and enjoy the food here.

This is the modern jap resto of Manila and has been earning good reviews since 2005.

We tried their P485/person buffet.

Advantage:
It is not like dad’s or saisaki na makikipag-unahan ka sa masarap na
pagkain at minsan mauubusan ka pa. Which is why when you get there,
they call it…

BETTER THAN BUFFET STYLE

And indeed it is much better because:
a. you can order as much as you want
b. provided NO LEFT OVERS
c. and SHARING is allowed (unlike other eat all you can buffet restos that explicitly states NO SHARING ALLOWED).

o di ba sulit?

I give 5 stars to:

Chocolate Balls Dessert
My watermelon shake (that I I forgot to take a pic of)
Chicken Teriyaki (the crunchiest I ever tasted)
Crunchy Maki — the best!
Tofu

4 stars to:

Cheese maki (with salmon on top)
Chicken rice

3 starts to:

Crab stick rolls
Buko pandan
My sister’s Buko shake

To QC people, good news coz they have a branch near tiendesitas:
Unit L1-005 & L1-006A Silver City MC Mall Inc,
Frontera Verde Drive, Julia Vargas St, Pasig City

Their branch at the FORT:
Unit 1A Ground Floor Fort Strip, Fort Bonifacio,
Taguig City, Metro Manila Tel No.: 816-6642

Tip:
Don’t forget to make reservations for sure seats. They are full at
saturdays and sundays most of the time (especially lunch and dinner).
However I saw walk-ins but for very small groups lang.

Check their menu: http://www.redkimono.com.ph/reg_1.htm
You may order as much as you can for P485,
but Ala Carte is another option.

A Philippine Italian Experience at Abbodanza!!!

My
friend Ia Lee, is one of the owners of this relatively new resto in
ortigas area. I just went to Italy last summer and I have been missing
and craving for its gelatos and pizzas since I stepped on the plane
coming back to the Philippines.

And ofcourse, when I arrived home I was thrilled upon seeing blog posts
and photo blogs of people about this Italian pizzeria ristorante which
is located only at the Ortigas area. This is good news for people not
only within the vicinity but also for people from nearby cities like QC
who wouldn’t have to experience traffic and long hours going to makati
or the fort to have an italian gastronomic experience.

Food is very very good!  And Affordable!

We had:
Pizza Four Seasons - which is a huge pizza and already good for 4-6 people. P285 (price for all pizzas)

Risotto Con Osso Busco - loved the meat!!! for only P280.  It is Italian rice with saffron and beef shank, milanese style

Minestrone
- as I am a zuppa (soup in italian) person, I cannot afford not to have
a soup. I give this soup 5 stars. For only P120!!! and my friend joyce
and I decided to split it into 2 for marami na sa isang bowl.

Cannelloni agli Spinach - is very good but i prefer them to be more generous with the white sauce next time. P195

Tiramisu — for dessert for only P95 :)

Thanks
Ia Lee and Abbondanza people for this italian food experience. Can’t you
open another branch in areas like QC (like somewhere in Katipunan)?
Students need more restos which don’t only serve good food but
affordable :0)

Abbondanza is located at the
G/F of Crescent Condominium
San Miguel Ave. and Amethyst Drive, Ortigas Center, Pasig City
Tel. 6336336
